Sherry S. Brigman of Newberry, SC, passed from death to eternal life on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the age of 80. Sherry was born on May 9, 1945, to the late Herbert L. and Vivian D. Stutts. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lloyd M. Brigman – the love of her life; children, Melissa “Missy” B. Schumpert (Claude) of Prosperity, Trudy B. Maddox (Cal) of Chapin, Tammy B. Bodie (Tim) of Chapin, and M. Blake Brigman (Jennifer) of Prosperity; grandchildren, Joey D. Bodie (Cadie), Ashton S. Storch (Ryan), Logan E. Schumpert, Jenna M. Bodie, M. Reid Brigman, V. Makenzie M. Killgo (Harrison), and C. Rhett Brigman; great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Jamison and Nathaniel Bodie and Walker Killgo; brother Herb K. Stutts (Susan); and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Sherry attended Newberry High School where she was voted class beauty for three consecutive years. She married Lloyd at the tender, young age of 17. She completed her senior year of high school, then he completed his college education after which they began their family. Together they built a wonderful life centered on faith and family. These cornerstone values became their legacy as they modeled a God-centered marriage and family life during every season of life. Whether in times of little or plenty, or in sickness or health, their values remained stalwart. Their home was, and is, a place where everyone immediately feels welcome and where hospitality is abundant. Sherry’s priority was always caring for her family; she was a consummate homemaker – but she was so much more.
Sherry was a longtime member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church, where she was a servant leader in many roles over the years, including Sunday School teacher, VBS leader, WELCA member and leader, church secretary, and visitation team member, among many others. In addition to her volunteer service in her church, she was very active in her children’s lives as a scout leader, Girl Scout Cookie chairperson, school field trip chaperone, sporting event cheerleader, and the list goes on. Her volunteer service to others was, for many years, while also working full-time as the “right hand” to her husband at Tom Brigman Contractors until her retirement. After retiring, Sherry became a committed volunteer at Newberry Hospital, where she was a patient liaison and gift shop volunteer. She remained an active hospital volunteer for more than 20 years, as long as her health allowed. In 2018, she received the hospital’s Presidential Award, recognizing her contribution of more than 4,000 cumulative hours of volunteer service. She was also a member of the Newberry Newcomers’ Club and Newberry Country Club, where she learned to play golf during retirement. She poured her heart and soul into every undertaking but cherished no role or assignment more than her calling as wife and soulmate to Lloyd, “Mama” to her children, and “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She could soothe and nurture a child like no other and regarded this as truly one of her life’s greatest privileges.
Those blessed to know her in any capacity loved her and were indelibly impacted as witnesses to her life so well lived. While her earthly journey is complete, her life’s lessons to us all remain.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Rebecca Wicker at Summer Memorial Lutheran Church on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 3:00pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church Fellowship Hall from 1:00pm until 2:30pm. Interment will follow the service at Newberry Memorial Gardens.
