Carol Burt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNutt Funeral Home - Conroe on Feb. 25, 2026.
Carol Sue Burt, 74, of Onalaska, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026.

Born Carol Sue Turney on June 3, 1951, in Orange, Texas, she grew up with strong family roots and a joy for life that never stopped her from putting her fingers in the sugar bowl. She later made her home in Onalaska, Texas, where she devoted herself to simple pleasures that made her happiest.

Carol was known for her beautiful smile, her graceful handwriting, and her gift for conversation. She truly never met a stranger and could spend hours happily talking on the phone with friends and loved ones. She adored animals - especially her cats - and found joy in everyday comforts: a cup of Folgers coffee, watching Oprah, wearing her favorite house dresses, admiring yellow roses, snapping Polaroid pictures, and looking forward to the return of the McRib.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Curtis Lee Burt; her father, James Frank Turney; and her mother, Clara Sue Turney.

She leaves behind her daughter, Toni Renee Merritt, and Toni's wife, Jodi Lynn Garrett; her granddaughter, Brittni Sue Peters, and Brittni's husband, Frank Mason Peters; and her treasured great-granddaughters, Lucy Grace and Annie Jo Peters.

She is also survived by her brother, Robert Franklin Turney; her nephews, Bradley Scott Turney and Nathan Kyle Turney; and her great-niece, Khloe Kyler Turney. She leaves behind her sister, Cynthia L. Wheatley, and Cynthia's husband, Jeff Wheatley; her niece, Lauren Chandler Patsfield, and Lauren's husband, Ian Patsfield; and her great-nieces, Avery Elizabeth and Eliana Renee Patsfield.

Carol's smile, her stories, and her unmistakable personality will be deeply missed. The memories she created and the stories she told will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to your local animal shelter or the Houston SPCA.
