Youngstown - Carol Jean Coalmer, aged 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Antonine Village on November 15th, 2025.
Carol was born to Carl and Iola (Lewis) McKnight on June 30, 1936 in
Youngstown, OH. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1955. Soon after, Carol married her high school sweetheart, James "Jim' Coalmer on June 22, 1955. They were happily married for 57 years until his passing in March of 2013. She dedicated her life to their 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
She lived a life defined by kindness, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Carol was the heart of our family-our storyteller, our cheerleader, and the quiet strength we leaned on in every season of life. She shared her warmth with everyone who crossed her path. Her home was a place of comfort where laughter was plentiful, and she had a talent for making the ordinary feel special- especially through her big hugs and red lipstick kisses. She was known for her generous spirit and her ability to find joy in the simplest moments. Carol's life was fulfilled in watching her family grow and sharing stories along the way.
Her legacy lives on in the compassion, strength, and love she instilled in each of us. She is survived by her children Karrie (Mark) Taylor, Lorrie (Adrian) Krey, Carlene (Richard) Chapella, and Russell (Lorraine) Coalmer. Grandchildren, Tarrah (Matthew) Bullock, Nathan Todd, Taylor Mahanna, Kara (Alex) Polit, Madeleine Coalmer, Brayton Taylor, Matthew (Jessica) Coalmer, Carley Mahanna, and Cohan Chapella. She also leaves behind sister Karen "Kay" Sandrock, sister-in-law Linda (James) Jenkins, 8 beautiful great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Carol was a devoted wife, mother, and nana to all those she loved. Though we will miss her voice, laughter, and presence, we take comfort in knowing her love will continue to guide us.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm for Carol J. Coalmer. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for the beautiful life she lived. Her love was her gift to us, and it will remain our greatest inheritance.
Special thanks to the staff at Antonine Village, especially the memory care unit, for the care, love and support they gave Carol and her family.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Antonine Village in North Jackson, OH and the
