Carol Cornforth, 71, passed away on September 12, 2025 in Wheeling, WV. Carol was born on February 21, 1954 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Charles Henry and Lyline Alice Langford Galligan.
Carol grew up in Annapolis, MD and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1971. After completing her Bachelor's degree at Wheeling College, she made Wheeling her home in 1975, and subsequently completed her MBA at Wheeling College as well. Carol served as an IT Professional and Educator for almost 50 years working at local institutions including Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Wheeling College, West Virginia Northern Community College, and Kalkreuth Roofing.
Carol had a radiant and warm spirit. She was kind, energetic, and described as a positive force who was fun to be around. She could make a friend out of any stranger, and often did. No matter what was going on, she had a hug and a meal for anyone who needed it. Carol was full of love for her family and friends.
She loved to plant in her garden, cheer for the Steelers and WVU, meet friends at the Bridge, spend time in Annapolis and at the beach, attend Galligan gatherings as well as high school & college reunions, sew clothes/costumes/even her own wedding gown, cook big family meals effortlessly, and play with her grandchildren who loved her beyond words. She was a proud member of The Bridge Tavern community and the High Maintenance B's.
Carol is survived by four beloved children, Jennifer Cornforth, Kristin Cornforth (Brian DiCola), John (Katie) Cornforth, and Ryan Cornforth; three grandchildren: Christian Gmiter, Ciaran, and Ava DiCola; the father of her children, Bill Cornforth; siblings: Michael (Constance) Galligan, Lynda (Jim) Mader, Pamela (Michael) Galligan-Stierle, Patrick (Emillee) Galligan, Nancy Fulton, Jim (Terri) Galligan, Tim (Nancy) Galligan; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews as well as many close neighbors, co-workers, and friends.
