Jacalyn Ann Smith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away surrounded by family peacefully at home on December 26, 2025, in
Benwood, WV, at the age of 71. Born on December 23, 1954, in
Wheeling, WV, Jacalyn lived a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
A devoted homemaker, Jacalyn dedicated her life to nurturing her family and creating a warm and welcoming home. Her door was always open, and she made everyone feel like family-especially her children's and grandchildren's friends, who knew her home as a place of comfort, laughter, and love. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She had a passion for travel, particularly to the beach, where she found peace and happiness. Jacalyn also loved dancing, singing karaoke, and hosting lively cookouts, where her infectious spirit and laughter brought joy to all who knew her.
Jacalyn is preceded in death by her father, Clarence Jacob Bott; her mother, Elizabeth June Gibbons; her dear friend, Bonnie Smith; and her beloved dog, Buffy.
She is survived by her loving husband, Darrell Smith of Benwood; her daughters, Tracy Williams of
Wheeling, WV, and Kimie (Mike) Markus of
Rayland, OH; her granddaughters, Alexis (Chase) Smith of
Weirton, WV, Aubree (Daron Weekly) Williams of
Sistersville, WV, and Reagan Warner of
Wheeling, WV; her grandsons, Owen Markus, Cooper Markus, and Colson Jax Markus, all of
Rayland, OH; and her cherished dogs, Dexter and Stewart. She is also survived by her sister Shirley (Buster) Gump, and two nieces and a nephew.
Graveside services will be held at Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens at 2:30pm on Tuesday the 30th.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to help the family with end-of-life expenses during this difficult time. Jacalyn's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
