Anthony Skvarka Obituary

Anthony Theodore "Tony" Skvarka, 90, of Moundsville, WV, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, at Moundsville Healthcare Center, after a long battle with Parkinson's, with family by his side.

He was born October 23, 1935, in Benwood, WV, a son of the late Philip and Theresa (Kubic) Skvarka. Tony lived a life marked by dedication to his family, faith, work and country. Tony attended Catholic grade school and graduated from Union High School class of 1953. After graduation Tony began his long career as an electrician on the railroad B&O, then CSX, from 1956-1998. In 1957 he was drafted to the U.S. Army, where he served for 2 years as a technician at a missile and radar center in Spring Valley, NY. Tony married the love of his life, Geraldine "Jerri" at St. Francis Xavier Church in 1958.

A man of faith, Tony was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, which he attended Sunday Mass regularly until he was unable to drive. Tony was a proud member of the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) as well as American Legion Post #3, reflecting his respect for his career and country. Tony was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing cards, dice games, gardening, bowling and listening to his grandson play the piano. He enjoyed watching sports, especially his beloved WVU Mountaineers.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Skvarka, who passed shortly after birth and four siblings, Philip Jr., John, Mary and Theresa.

Tony is survived by the love of his life, whom he spent 67 wonderful years with, Geraldine "Jerri" (Majewski); three children, Mary Beth (Kelly) Smith of Glen Dale, WV, Joseph (Mirka) Skvarka of Clearwater, FL and Thomas (Gregg Tucker) Skvarka of Frederick, MD; three grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Andrew (Jessica) Smith and Isabel Kuca; two great-grandchildren, Declan and Emily Smith and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Moundsville Healthcare Center and Amedisys Hospice for all of their love and support they have shown to Tony. They would also like to thank Fr. Sebastian for his caring words and to their extended family and friends.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
