Carol's Obituary

Carol (Skie) Dannen, a life well-lived and filled with faith, creativity, and love, made her peaceful transition on September 1, 2025 at Edgewood Assisted Living Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Carol's life at Heritage Funeral Home on September 6,2025, at 11:00. The family invites you to join them for a time of food and fellowship following the service.

Born on January 16, 1945 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Oscar and Marie Skie, Carol was blessed with a large family. She grew up with two older brothers, Duane and Gary and two younger sisters Marilyn and Nancy. She first met her soulmate, Ron Dannen, in 1957 at the Wall Lake Roller Skating Rink. Their love started in junior high and culminated in their marriage on July 12, 1963, in Lennox, South Dakota. Their family soon grew with the arrival of four children: Carrie, Lisa, Stephen, and Jason.

Carol's passions were many. She loved Jesus deeply and expressed her creativity through painting, creating beautiful canvases that reflected her spirit. She shared her husband Ron's love for the outdoors, finding absolute enjoyment in fishing with family on the Missouri River north of Pierre. She also shared a special bond with animals, particularly horses and dogs, a love she nurtured alongside Ron. She was a constant companion on his motorcycle, and together they rode many happy miles through the Black Hills during numerous Sturgis Bike Rallies. Their shared love for adventure also led them to travel to places like Branson, New York City, Alaska and the Holy Land.

An accomplished professional, Carol founded Careers Unlimited and worked there alongside her husband and son until she retired. Her dedication and hard work were a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit.

But her greatest joy came from her family. Carol treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passing on her love of life and creating cherished memories with each of them.

Carol is survived by her daughter Carrie (Robert) Grable, her daughter Lisa (Mike) Krier, and her son Stephen (Sara) Dannen. She is also survived by her brother Duane (Ginny) Skie, Marilyn (Butch) Buskohl, and Nancy (Mike) Hopp. She leaves behind a legacy of love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Justin (Codi) Grable, Jordan (Slade) Mutchelknaus, James (Rachel) Krier, Zach (Ellie) Krier, Maria (Derric) Ludens, Laura Krier, Joshua Dannen, and Joseph Dannen.

She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Ron Dannen, her parents Oscar and Marie Skie, her son Jason Dannen, her granddaughter Sam Krier and her brother Gary Skie.
