Carol Deady, a longtime resident of Medford, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024, just shy of her 80th birthday.
Small in stature but strong in spirit, Carol was known for her sassy and humorous nature. She enjoyed her time working at Going Bananas market in the North End and gabbing with her customers. She had some fun times running errands with her good friend Sandy. And she loved her family, often connecting with them over food, whether it was making broccoli rabe for her sister Johanne or baking endless banana bread for her grandchildren, with back-up loaves in the freezer for when they would visit. Vanilla Haagen-Dazs was her late-night go-to snack.
Born in Somerville, Mass., Carol was the beloved daughter of Rose and Chester DeMattia. She leaves behind her beloved sister, Johanne (DeMattia) Mazzeo of Sun City, Arizona; and three children: Anthony Deady and his wife Margie of Franklin, Mass.; Michelle Deady and her partner Michael Giangrande of Medford; and Annmarie Cassidy and her husband Jake of Warwick, R.I. Carol was the treasured godmother to Mark Mazzeo and the loving Nonnie to Nicole Deady, Michael Deady, Talia Scarpelli and Morgan Cassidy, whom she sweetly referred to as her "Sukis," her pride and joy. She would brag about her grandchildren to anyone who would listen and carried around their pictures with her. Everyone – well beyond her circle of grandchildren – referred to her as Nonnie; it was her favorite title.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Carol's family at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St, Medford on Sunday, September 22nd from 4 PM to 8 PM and again on Monday, September 23rd at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
