Obituary of Carol A. DeSantis
Mrs. Carol A. DeSantis, 88, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with her loving family by her side.
Carol was born in Utica, on December 24, 1934, the daughter of Cosmo and Laura (Myers) Lanzo. She was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On March 1, 1953, Carol was united in marriage with Paul R. DeSantis, a loving and devoted union of 52 years, until Paul's death in 2005. Carol was a horse racing enthusiast who owned horses with her son, Rocco. She enjoyed spending time at Vernon Downs, the Turning Stone Resort and Casino as well as playing cards and bingo. She was of the Catholic faith.
Mrs. DeSantis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Michael Maggio of Utica; her son and daughter-in-law, Rocco and Mary Ann DeSantis of Utica; six cherished grandchildren, Michael (Casey) Maggio, Paul (Charmaine) Maggio, Marisa Maggio, Paul (Yadira) DeSantis, Craig Gazzilli and Deanna Murazewski; seven adored great grandchildren, Craig, Jr., Kaylee, Joseph, Iliana, Tala, Frank and Eleanor and one sister, Katherine Smith of Dayton, OH, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Cosmo and Laura and husband Paul, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Carmen.
In keeping with Carol's wishes there are no calling hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Carol's funeral service on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. She will be laid to rest with her beloved Paul in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Those wishing to make a donation in Carol's memory, please consider Anita's Stevens Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, NY 13502.
Mrs. DeSantis' family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff on the 2 floor rehab at the Charles T. Sitrin Health Care Center in New Hartford, for wonderful care and compassion you provided to Carol during her time there.
