Carol Dodge Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sullivan Funeral Home - Hanover on Aug. 6, 2024.
Dodge, Carol Marie (Costigan), 80 of Pembroke MA passed peacefully with her loving family on August 4, 2024 after a long illness.
She is survived by her children Albert J. (AJ) Dodge Jr and his late wife Kristina (Stordy) of Braintree, Mary Pat Dodge of Duxbury, the late Cristin Dixon and her husband Raymond of Carver, Gregory Dodge of East Bridgewater, and Brian and his wife Sandra (Hemmings) of Plymouth.
Carol was born on August 5, 1943 in Brighton, MA. She was raised by her parents Mary Pat (Sweeney) and John Costigan. Carol graduated from Mission Hill High School in Roxbury, MA 1961. She worked as a switchboard operator for New England Telephone in the Information department. Carol then went to work at Children's Hospital for 10 years as the Head of Communications of their Message Center until 1974.
Carol moved to Pembroke, MA with the love of her life, the late Albert J. Dodge Sr., in 1970. She enjoyed "living in the country." If you were her neighbor, you knew her. Carol began her involvement with the town by attending almost every Town Meeting. Carol self funded and served coffee at Town Meeting for over 50 years while being a vocal participant in the proceedings on what she felt was best for Pembroke. Carol served on the Silver Lake Regional School Committee for 15 years and Pembroke Elementary School Committee for 12 years. She was a fierce advocate for students and wanted to do right by the staff whom she felt provided such a good education to all children. Carol was also a member of the Pembroke Democratic Town Committee for decades where she liked to get into "good trouble." She was proud that she voted in every town election so her voice could be heard.
When Carol left working for Children's Hospital she then concentrated on raising her 5 children. She enjoyed attending all of their sporting events and school activities and was well known for being "chauffeur" for many of her children's teammates. Her favorite sport was baseball. It was her greatest honor to have the North Pembroke Elementary Baseball Field named in her honor for her years of service on the school committee. Carol was a eucharistic minister at St. Thecla's in Pembroke for many years.
Carol was the Sister to: the late Mary Pat and James Kaszanek of Rockland, Paul Daley and his late wife Helen of Easton, and Jean and James W. Hunt Jr. of Dorchester
Carol was the Sister-in-Law of: the late Thomas Dodge of Marshfield, MA, late Florence (Dodge) and Edward McManus of Weston, MA, Muriel and Hugh Beckett of Lighthouse Point, FL, and Rosemary and Mark Matanes of Canton, MA
Carol loved being a Grammy to Andrew and Jonathan Dixon, Colin, Cory and Matthew Dodge. We know that they will miss her nose rubbed kisses. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Carol was a loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and Grammy. Having people come over for a cookout and to swim in her pool was her favorite part of summer. She really loved to entertain in Carol's Castle.
