Carol Jean Ebrite

On August 20, 2025, Carol Jean Miller Ebrite reunited with her beloved brother, Buddy, and her parents, John and Jane. Carol's 83 years were full of life. Born in California and raised in Springfield, Carol attended the University of Arkansas, studied for a year in Spain, and experienced the vibrant music scene while living for a time in San Francisco. After returning to her roots in Springfield, she met and married kindred spirit Randy, with whom she cultivated community while operating The Open Book used bookstore on Commercial Street near the vintage treasure-hunter's paradise, Nellie Dunn's, which Randy curated with his cousin Michael. Carol's strong connection to place was most fulfilled at the homes she and Randy shared in the historic Rountree neighborhood, in the tranquility of rural Christian County, and in rugged Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Carol loved animals, especially dogs, reading and discussing books, knitting, and music. Carol's husband, Randy, her stepson Eric (Talitha), grandchildren Blake and Chase, sister-in-law Cindy (Lane), sweet dog, Betty, and many dear friends and family will forever remember Carol.

Carol's wish was not to have a funeral or memorial service, but her family is planning a music party to celebrate Carol on a date to be announced in 2026. Donations in her honor may be made to the Southwest Missouri Humane Society or other no-kill animal shelters.
