Carol Freeman Obituary

Carol Roberts Freeman

December 6, 1955 - September 24, 2025

Tega Cay, South Carolina - Tega Cay, SC – Mrs. Carol Roberts Freeman passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her caregivers and held by her loving husband, Pick, at her residence in Tega Cay, S.C., on a beautiful, late summer morning, September 24, 2025. Carol went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 69 years.

Carol was born in Huntsville, Alabama, on December 6, 1955. Carol grew up and attended city schools graduating from Grissom High School. She attended Jacksonville State University and graduated with a BA degree in Fine Arts. After college graduation, Carol became an art teacher K-12 in the Georgia

school system. Three years later she applied to Piedmont Airlines to become a flight attendant as a career change. She was accepted and moved to the base in Roanoke, Va., on her first assignment. She enjoyed flying, her co-workers, and all the people that she met in the base. The Roanoke base closed, and she moved to Charlotte to stay for the remainder of her 36-year career. She loved flying and flew to all the system destinations, always treating her passengers with kindness and respect. She was sweet, kind and gentle with everyone she met on the airlines. Carol in return was very well liked by all associate flight attendants, and they would meet for parties, birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. She was such a joy to work with. Her most favorite trip flying was to work the trip to Dublin, Ireland, where she cultivated so many Irish friends. One year she took a group of Rock Hill pilots and wives on a one-week Dublin and Ireland tour. What a trip.

Carol also enjoyed working in her flower gardens and was a Master Gardener of York County. Her favorites were perennials and one or two orchids (cymbidium and phalaenopsis). During this period, she stopped her water coloring painting, took up the game of golf, and became an addict. She would go to play any time and any place. She absolutely loved the game and played on a weekly basis with a number of ladies groups, even scoring a hole-in-one. Carol was also a hole marshal on hole #17 for 16 years of the Wells Fargo, Truist/PGA Championship Tournaments at Quail Hollow Country Club.

Carol was preceded in death by her father, Barney (Ace) Hilton Roberts. She is survived her mother, Nancy Copeland Roberts; her loving husband of 32 years, Pickens Noble Freeman, Jr., who was a Captain for Piedmont Airlines and U.S. Air; her brothers, Kenneth Crawford Roberts and Patrick Hilton Roberts. Carol is affectionately remembered by her nieces, Kinsey Roberts Hinkson (Joseph) and Rebecca Robert Marian (Samuel), and nephew, Daniel Robert (Shelby).

A Memorial service will be celebrated at 2 pm on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 144 Caldwell Street, Rock Hill, S.C. with Father Lucas Crossland celebrating. Interment to follow in the parish garden immediately after the service. The reception will follow in the parish reception hall.

Flowers gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Episcopal Church of Saviour Memorial Fund, 144 Caldwell Street, Rock Hill, S.C. 29730, www.ecoos.org

Carol's family would like to especially thank Dr. Patricia Kropf of Novant Health Cancer Institute and her whole team of physicians and nurses for the valiant battle against the virulent leukemia that took Carol's life.

Carol and I were neighbors in Boones Mill, Va. We were both newly hired by Piedmont Airlines. She was always kind with a warm smile. I know she will be greatly missed by all.
