Carol Jean Garavalia

Carol Jean Garavalia, age 82, of Murphysboro, IL, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025. She was born on November 23, 1942, to Carroll "Lum" Gilbert and Edith Marie (Spaulding) Gatewood in Waddy, Kentucky. Carol retired from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, as a bookkeeper for the department of Zoology, having worked there for 20 years. Carol was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, Illinois.

Survivors include her three sons, Kevin E. Boucher (Loraine Hunziker), David C. (Julie) Boucher, Brian (Linda) Garavalia; grandchildren, David (Julie) Brooks, Hannah Brooks, and Shawn (Serena) Cox; great-grandchildren, Cadence Brooks, Harper Dae Cox, and Talon Lee Cox; cousins, Marlenne Mills, Sharon Robertson Foley, and Todd Baldwin; and Blackie, the attack cat. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandsons, Tyler Boucher and Damian Lee O'Neal; and daughter-in-law, Andrea Boucher.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 12:00 PM with Rev. Vernon Carpenter officiating at Pigeon Fork Baptist Church, 5090 Hickory Ridge Rd, Waddy, KY 40076. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM at the church. Interment will follow the service at Pigeon Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Waddy, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorials be made to Pigeon Fork Baptist Church.
