Carol Ann Grundstrom 84 of Kennebunk Maine, formerly of Hingham MA passed away on May 28, 2024.
Carol is survived by her loving family, Dianne Lemoine and her husband John of Saco Maine, Karen Grundstrom of Wilmington MA, and Mark Grundstrom and his wife Laura of Maynard MA, along with her grandchildren, Emily McMeekin and her husband Jim, Andrew Lemoine, Hannah Stebbins, Owen Lemoine, Samantha Grundstrom, and Meghan Grundstrom. She is also survived by her siblings, Jean McCormack, John Macklin and his wife Kay, and Joyce Wentworth. She is predeceased by her brother Bruce Macklin.
Carol was born in Norridgewock Maine, she attended high school in Sanford Maine and in true Carol style, she independently put herself on a bus to Boston to attend nursing school at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. There she made lifelong friends and met her former husband, Frank Grundstrom. After raising her family, she had a lengthy career in Occupational Health Nursing.
Carol lived a full and adventurous life where her love for family, friends, travel, and nature were her priority. She raised her family in Hingham, and it was there that she instilled these values into her children by planning camping trips to various places and skiing trips to Trappe Family Lodge in Vermont. One of the best trips she gave to her children was a month-long cross-country camping trip to explore multiple National Parks in the US. Carol maintained an active spiritual life. Her faith was important to her, both in a more formal church setting and in her daily bible study and journaling.
As her children became adults Carol travelled the world on hiking, skiing, and cycling trips to New Zealand, Europe, the US, and Canadian Rockies, trekking to Machu Picchu, rafting in the Grand Canyon, and an African Safari. She became an avid golfer playing in multiple Southern Maine golf leagues. She loved to quilt and has made quilts for every single one of her family members.
When Carol became a grandmother, she took her children and grandchildren to Maine for a week every summer to a cottage on a lake, thus began the tradition of Grammies Camp. For 27 years it has been a time for her kids and grandchildren to be together connecting and strengthening close relationships and developing new family traditions. Carol loved this week so much and looked forward to it every single year, it won't be the same without her.
Carol's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Huntington Commons in Kennebunk ME for the love, kindness, and care that they extended to Carol and her family.
