Carol Guymer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cornelison Funeral Home - Pocatello on Feb. 5, 2026.
Carol Jett Guymer; born in Ypsilanti, ND October 24, 1929 to AC Jett and Mae Butson Jett passed away January 29, 2026, in Pocatello, ID at the age of 96.
Carol began school in Ypsilanti and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1947. She began higher education at Jamestown College and received her BA in Music Education and History from Minot State Teachers College in May 1952.
Carol was married to William B Guymer on August 23, 1952; at the Methodist Church on Jamestown, ND.
Carol taught private piano and voice lessons in Washburn and Lisbon, ND. She began teaching music in Lisbon Public Schools and later taught in the Mandan, ND public school system at Central Elementary, Lewis and Clark Elementary and Roosevelt Elementary. Retiring in May of 1990.
Carol was an intelligent, energetic dynamo with a zest for living and a thirst for knowledge. She gave many seminars throughout North Dakota during her teaching career and wrote the K-6 grade portion of the North Dakota state music curriculum for the Department of Education. Carol was instrumental in establishing Very Special Arts Festivals at various locations in North Dakota; where children with disabilities were exposed to the Fine Arts: Music, Dance/Movement and Visual Arts.
After retiring from public education Carol began quilting both bed quilts and wall hangings. She served on the nomination committee of United Methodist Women serving the district of North and South Dakota. As a member of Zonta, PEO and Fortnightly Club, she took very active leadership roles.
Her local church always received the benefit of Carol's passion and energy; most often in the music program; either directing the choir, playing piano/organ. As to her greatest accomplishment; in Carol estimation, it would be her loving marriage of 63 years and raising her 2 children.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, William B Guymer on October 25, 2014; as well her parents AC Jett February 1962, and Mae Butson Jett May 1990.
Carol is survived by her son Robert Guymer; wife Dawn, and their children Nicole Guymer Thoelke and Jett Guymer; and daughter Kelley Guymer
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.cornelisonfh.com
