In the loving memory of Carol E. Irons, who graced this world with her kindness and unwavering dedication and was known for her role as the Librarian Director at Fairfax Public Library, (Aug. 1984 – Dec. 2009). Having displayed a special gift in working with children during the summer library program, she has left behind a profound impact on all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Born in Kiowa, Kansas, on May 24, 1938, Carol's passion for education shone through as a proud graduate of Kiowa High School in 1956. She married Bobby G. Irons in Kiowa on June 26, 1959. A few months later they moved to Fairfax, Okla. and were blessed with two sons and a daughter. Carol was a caring mother and outstanding homemaker. They celebrated 38 years of marriage before Bob’s passing in 1998.

In addition to her successful career, Carol found joy in various hobbies and interests. She was blessed with a gift for creativity and particularly enjoyed painting, sewing and gardening. Notably, she dedicated herself to guiding young minds as a Sunday School Teacher and enthusiastically took part in helping with Vacation Bible School. She assisted with the church ladies’ group – Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF), who helped and supported those in need. Sewing brought her immense happiness, especially when creating beautiful pieces for her grandchildren and her Osage friends. Her creativity knew no bounds.

Carol's list of proudest accomplishments paints a picture of a woman deeply involved in her community. From her involvement in organizations like the Fairfax Study Club, Do Bees, Fairfax Area Chamber of Commerce, to being an active member of the Red Hat Ladies—a group that held a special place in her heart—Carol's commitment to service and camaraderie is truly inspiring. She further enjoyed membership in the Fairfax Art Association and Fairfax Historical Society.

On April 24, 2024, Carol passed peacefully away at her residence following a lengthy illness. Carol’s spirit is reunited with her beloved husband Bob, their 7-year-old daughter Crystal, her parents Firman and Nadine, and two sisters Judith Catlin and Rebecca Anderson.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Brad J. and Marla Irons of Ponca City, as well as Nick and Carol S. Irons of Brandon, Mississippi. Her former daughter-in-law Terri Irons and grandchildren Brandun Irons, Tyler (Ashlee) Mayse, Cameron (Dusty) Irons, Brady(Danika) Irons, Brittany (Dustin) Rapp, Jillian (Ezra) Cohen, Zachary (Caroline) Irons will forever hold Carol close to their hearts. Ten lucky great grandchildren Haylee, Colt, Landon, Lane, Madelyn, Blakely, Cutter, Haizen, Avery, and Brody. Other survivors include twin sisters Melissa (Bill) Melton and Melinda (Chuck) Ryan all from Tulsa; nieces; nephews; and numerous cherished friends.

Viewing will be held 3pm to 7pm at Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, April 26th. The funeral service honoring Carol’s life will be 2pm on Saturday, April 27th at the First Christian Church with Pastor Russ Hughes officiating. Though we grieve the loss of such an exceptional individual, let us find solace in knowing that Carol's legacy of love and community will endure through the lives she touched so deeply.
