Carol Ann Levitsky, 81, passed away on February 6, 2025, surrounded by her family in Ithaca, New York. She was born on April 20, 1943 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She attended Trenton State College, New Jersey, earning a degree in Elementary Education. Carol was a lifelong educator and a beloved 4th grade teacher at Northeast Elementary School in Ithaca for more than two decades. She was known to her family and many friends for her laugh, her love of reading, history, gardens, birds, the ocean, for her deep sense of caring for the people in her life, and a good pastry. She will be remembered for being an exceptional listener, a doting partner, parent, and grandparent, and for her rugelach.
She was predeceased by her mother, Mary (Rubinstein) Elster, her father, Max Rubinstein, and her brother, Samuel Rubinstein. Carol is survived by her loving wife and partner of 30 years, Stephanie Panfel; her sister, Roseann Assaraf; her son, Steven Levitsky; her daughters, Sandy Levitsky, Susie Roselle, and Sophie Panfel-Levitsky; her grandchildren, Alejandra, Sadie, Henry, and Esme; and her nephews Max and Daniel. Carol never forgot a birthday or holiday and we will miss her perfect, teacher handwriting.
A funeral will be held at Temple Beth El, 402 N. Tioga Street, Ithaca at 10am on Sunday, February 9, followed by a burial at Lake View Cemetery, 605 E. Shore Drive.
In lieu of flowers, Carol's family requests that donations be made in Carol's honor to the Tompkins County Public Library.
