Warren|Carol Johanson Lundin, a beloved wife, adventurous mother, and devoted grandmother, passed away on October 1, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on March 11, 1937, in Providence, RI, she was the cherished only child of Roland and Sally Johanson. Carol shared a wonderful marriage of 53 years with her late husband, Robert "Bob" Lundin.
Carol is survived by her three children and their families: her daughter, Sally (whose husband, John, is deceased) and their daughters, Lily and Julia; her son, Rob and his wife, Kelly, and their children Christina (Dan), Robbie (Alexis), and Erik; and her son, Steve and his wife, Kate, and their sons, Gunnar and Axel. Carol was the proud great-grandmother of Lily and June (daughters of Robbie and Alexis) and is also survived by her first cousin, Debbie MacDonald Murphy, who was like a sister to her.
Carol graduated from Lincoln School in Providence, RI, where she made many lifelong friends. She attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, before she married and dedicated herself to her dream of love and family.
As a youth Carol was a member of the Providence Figure Skating Club, winning the New England Junior Championship. Her passion for sports was a constant throughout her life: she enjoyed golf, tennis, and skiing, and happily taught her children the joys of skating and skiing in the cold Minnesota winters during the 1960s and 1970s. Occasionally she could be spotted performing jumps and spins on the neighborhood outdoor ice rink near her son's hockey practice, entertaining everyone on the ice.
In 1978, Carol and Bob embarked on a life-changing move to Saudi Arabia. While it was difficult to leave her life in Minnesota, Carol's optimism, adventurous spirit and natural ability to make friends helped to create a 20-year adventure in the Middle East. During this time, they traveled the world with their children, successfully instilling the importance of cultural understanding and lifelong learning. While living in Jeddah they made great friendships with fellow American expatriates, many of whom followed Bob and Carol back to New England to continue their lifelong friendships.
Their adventures continued upon returning to Rhode Island. Carol and Bob purchased and renovated the Bristol Ferry Lighthouse in Bristol, RI where they weathered a few major Nor'easters and hosted family and friends from around the world. They later moved to the welcoming community of Bagy Wrinkle Cove in Warren, RI.
Known for her kindness and boundless love for family and friends, Carol was an active and supportive presence in her grandchildren's lives, cheering them on at all their sports and activities. She was a member of the Handicraft Club in Providence for many years and an active volunteer gardener at Blithewold Garden and Arboretum. She cherished evenings outside on the deck overlooking Narragansett Bay, enjoying a glass of wine surrounded by her loved ones with the company of her beloved mini dachshund, Fritz, sitting on her lap.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held on December 20, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence, RI. In lieu of flowers, Carol's family kindly requests donations be made to Blithewold Gardens and Arboretum in Bristol, RI where she dedicated her time in the gardens.
