Shelley Savran Houlihan

Shelley Savran Houlihan (72) of Simsbury, CT passed away on February 26, 2026. She was the loving wife of Charles D. Houlihan, Jr. (Chip) for 47 years and the model for two strong and adoring daughters, Meghan Houlihan Sargen (Josh) and Brenna K. Houlihan, M.D. (Rajdeep Kanwar). She was the devoted grandmother of Lena H. and Sophie Charley, who lovingly called her Mees. She was the daughter of the late Jack Savran, M.D. and Loraine Gartner Savran of Providence, RI.

Shelley was a social worker, writer, artist and wise soul. She graduated from Lincoln School in Providence (forming life-long friendships), Union College (B.A.) and Syracuse University (MSW). After years as a medical and geriatric social worker, Shelley began to write short stories and novels. Later, she devoted more time to different modes of art.

Throughout her life, she was a soothing presence and loving counselor to friends of her and her daughters' generations. She had a gift for understanding people, providing unique insights into problems and gently reframing life experiences, and always with warm humor. She created an intimate and loving home for family and friends, and her superior skills in the kitchen satisfied many an appetite.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, 1-4 p.m. at Metro Bis, 690 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury.

Burial will be private.
