Hazel Matilda Reid

Hazel Matilda Reid, 85, of Bloomfield, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, March 22, 2026. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rupert Nathaniel Reid. She leaves behind her four children; Donald Henry of London, England; Jennifer Reid-Williams and her husband, Peter Williams, of Bloomfield, Connecticut; Elaine Whittingham and her husband, Hugh Whittingham, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and Richard Reid and his wife, Michelle Reid, of Simsbury, Connecticut. She is also survived by Donald's partner, Katarzyna Czekaj, and was predeceased by Donald's wife, Tracy Henry.

Hazel was a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mercelyn James, Myrtle James, and Shirley James; and her brothers, Alvado James and her fraternal twin, Colin James. She is survived by her sister, Lesline James, and her brother, Oswald Hamilton.

Hazel was born and raised in Central Village, St. Catherine, Jamaica, to the late Lester James and Elreth Johnson where she attended White Marl Primary School and Junior High School. In her early twenties, Hazel moved to England, where she lived with her eldest sister, Mercelyn. During that time, she married Rupert Reid on August 10, 1963, in Wandsworth, London. Rupert, a baker by trade, held various jobs over the years. In 1980, they moved with their family to the United States, settling in Hartford, Connecticut, where they built a life together.

Hazel's beautiful smile and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She had a way of making even a simple "good morning" feel warm and sincere. She will forever be remembered for her caring and giving nature, and for her gentle heart. Heaven has gained a lovely pure soul. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 8:00 am to 10:00am at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield, Windsor, Connecticut.

In accordance with Hazel's wishes, a private burial service attended by immediate family and relatives only, will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Bloomfield, Connecticut. Family and relatives are invited to gather for refreshments at 31 Tobey Road, Unit 5, Bloomfield, CT.
