Carol A. McHenry, 85, of Petersburg, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025. Carol was born on February 13, 1940, in Athens, Illinois to her parents, Fred and Gracie Roberts. She married Harold McHenry on December 12, 1958 and they shared 58 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death on October 30, 2017, along with her parents, a granddaughter, Betsy, and a great-grandson, Grant.

Carol is survived by her children, LeAnn (Brian) Atterberry of Petersburg, Dave (Diana) McHenry of Springfield, Mary Jo (Tom) Bennett of Petersburg, and Mike (Kim) McHenry of Normal; grandchildren, Josh (Katie), Leslie (Robert), Colby (Rachel), JennaRae, RJ, and Allison; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Caleise, Asher, Wyatt, Maci, Grayson, Gigi, Parker, Sawyer, Hailey, and Lane; and a sibling, Betty Swearingen.

Carol babysat for many years. She worked for the Illinois Department of Revenue in 1986 until her retirement in 2002. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friend Rena Gillmore. While raising their children, many weekends were spent with lifelong friends Dave and Joyce Foster.

A memorial service for Carol and Harold will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 11am in the chapel of Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, Illinois. The family will receive friends an hour prior to service time. Memorial donations may be made to Sojourn Shelter & Services, 1800 Westchester Blvd, Springfield IL 62704.
