Carol Ann “Murph” Murphy, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 29, 2025 after a brief stay at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
Murph was born in Springfield, IL on March 30, 1951 to Dr. John and Frances (nee Kerlikar) Murphy, joining sister Mary Beth. Growing up in West Chicago, her father was her hero ~ when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she responded “I wanna be a Daddy!”
After graduating from West Chicago Community High School in 1969, she ventured west to the University of Wyoming, where she met (and eventually eloped with) Gary Lee Morgan. Daughter Tamra Lorraine was born in 1971, followed by Holly Lynn in 1976. The birth of their daughters, the creation of their own family, filled her with joy. She combined her love of cooking with her love of family, bringing them together nightly over a home-cooked meal to catch up on the day.
Murph began her career with the USPS in 1973, and for 17 years she proudly cared for her Rural Route ‘neighbors’. Known for her reliability, quick smile, and unending supply of dog biscuits, she became a trusted friend to all on her route.
After receiving a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, Murph chose to retire in 1990 to focus on her health. Though her career was cut short, she faced her illness with courage, inspiring those around her with her upbeat spirit and a tenaciousness that was second to none! She and Gary divorced and she made Cheyenne her new home.
A devoted reader, she found comfort and inspiration in books of all genres. She had a real fondness of sharing passages from the Bible that touched her.
Animals were another source of happiness. When she was a child, she would keep grasshoppers in jars so they wouldn’t be cold or afraid outside at night! Whether caring for pets at home or supporting local shelters and nationwide rescue organizations, her love for all creatures was unwavering.
Murph is survived by her daughters Tamra and Holly, her sister Mary Beth and favorite brother (in law) Keith Deines, nieces Cara and Emily, and her wonderful “found family” at Polaris Rehabilitative Care Center in Cheyenne.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Dr. John C. and Frances Murphy, and former spouse Gary Morgan.
With deep appreciation, the family thanks the incredible team at CRMC, the loving staff at Polaris Care Center, and the dear friends whose love made them family.
In lieu of a formal service, please join family at Polaris (2700 E 12th St Cheyenne, WY) on Friday, December 5 at 3:00 p.m. to share stories, smiles, and refreshments.
