Carol Ann Notarianni, age 77, died peacefully at Methodist Hospital on Monday, July 22 following a very lengthy illness.
She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 6, 1946, the daughter of Patricia Aubele Smith and Ellsworth Smith. She was preceded in death by her brother Tom in 1967, and her parents.
She graduated with honors from Penn Hills High School where she was a majorette.
Carol graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh in 1967. She worked for thirty years as an operating room nurse. She also earned a BA degree from St Francis College.
She married John Notarianni in 1968. She is survived by her husband and three children, Carla Notarianni Geren and her husband Mike of Springfield, Missouri, Lisa Notarianni Huse and her husband Patrick, of Indianapolis and John Thomas Notarianni and his wife Sarah of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Carol is also survived by six grandchildren who were the joy of her life. Anna and Michael Huse, Joseph, Gianna, Maria and Margaret Notarianni.
She had a deep love of horses and owned two beautiful Friesians. One that she rode. The other was trained and shown by Jennifer Conour throughout the Midwest in dressage shows, rising to the Grand Prix level. Over two decades, Carol was grateful for the friendship and love of her large family of “horse people” who remember her as outgoing, friendly and always smiling and upbeat.
In December 2008, Carol was blessed with a lung transplant which provided her with many years of life. She was always grateful to the anonymous donor. She was also extremely thankful for the care and compassion from her Pulmonologist Dr Scott Roberts and her Transplant Nurse Coordinators, Kathy Decker and Danyel Gooch
Visitation for Carol will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Flanner Buchanan - Zionsville, 105 W. Pine St, Zionsville, IN 46077, and on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 10:00am - 11:00am at St. Alphonsus Ligouri Roman Catholic Church, 1870 W Oak St, Zionsville, IN 46077, with funeral mass to follow at 11:00am. Interment at Zionsville Cemetery to follow.
The family wishes to thank Dr Scott Roberts, Dr Mrunal Patel, Dr Mary Kay Turner and all the physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists from Methodist ICU and the medical staff of Kindred North Acute Care Hospital for the kindness, compassion and never-ending care they provided to Carol over the sixteen months of her illness
