Carol (Fredrikson) Pearson, age 80, passed away September 21 due to complications of ovarian cancer while surrounded by family.

She was born in Hudson, SD in 1945 to Jacob and Lorraine Fredrikson. She graduated from Centerville High School then went on to graduate from South Dakota State University in 1967.

Carol married John Pearson in 1968. They loved and supported each other throughout life including 26 years of living alongside ovarian cancer. Cancer did not keep her from traveling the country to see family. They made many states their home and she made friends everywhere she lived.

Carol was a hard worker and most recently worked as office manager for the Newton and Hendricks County Extension offices supporting youth and agriculture in those communities. She retired in 2023 and continued to be member of the Chat N Do Extension Homemakers Club, involved in many volunteer activities. She found joy in caring for plants and flowers and spending time with family, including competing with her son (Wordle®) and weekly video chats with family since 2020.

Carol is survived by her loving children Deborah (Lew) and James (Laurel); her cherished grandchildren, Deelia and Cal; and her loving siblings, David, Gene, Susan, and Donna (Mark); and caring sisters-in-law Mary and Margaret. It is hard to explain the depth of her love for her family. She wanted to fill every moment with them. She lives on in our memories and through our care for those around us.

A Celebration of Life will be held November 29th, 2025 at 1:30-3:00pm at Rude's Funeral Home, Brookings, SD. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in Carol's name. https://p2p.onecause.com/nocc/donate
