St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 30, 2025, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church honoring the life of Carol M. Smith, 77, who passed away on October 26, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes.
A visitation will take place at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville on Thursday from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 AM on Thursday.
Her son, the Very Rev. Brent L. Smith, VF will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Victoria Purtle and Linda Bonin.
Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Carol was born on January 14, 1948 in Catahoula, daughter of Wesley and Wilda Durio Melancon. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She had a passion for shopping and enjoyed taking trips to the casino. An avid gardener, she dedicated countless hours to her yard, which was a true reflection of her meticulous nature and love for the outdoors. She found peace and happiness at the beach, where she created memories that her family will cherish forever. Carol lived a life filled with love, joy, and cherished moments that will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Raymond Smith; children, David Smith (Larry), Angela Theriot (James), and Very Rev. Brent L. Smith; and grandchildren, Victoria Purtle (Austin), Alayna Theriot and Makayla Brock (Noah).
She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Gail Anslem.
Pallbearers will be Beau Landry, Chad Smith, Austin Purtle, David Smith, Gabe Anslem, Eric Bonin, and Brandon Racca.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Anslem, Shawn Anslem, James Theriot and Larry Prevost.
Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
