Carol Sue Smith, 83, of Cowgill, MO, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday morning November 11, 2025 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO. Carol was born on June 6, 1942, to Avery and Idyl (Heinis) Murray of Wellsville, KS. She grew up and attended school in Wellsville, later continuing her education to receive an associates degree. On March 21, 1964, she was married to the love of her life, Gerald "Jerry" Eugene Smith. The pair had two sons together, Steffen and Dallas. She worked a variety of jobs over the years, but her favorite by far was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Carol was an avid lover of Christ and a member of the First Baptist Church of Cowgill. She embodied Christ in her actions and in the way she lived her everyday life. She was also a country girl through and through–enjoying spending time on her farm, fishing, keeping and showing horses, and raising german shepherds. While loving the simpler life, she also had a taste for the finer things and loved collecting turquoise jewelry. She loved to spend time with her family and could make a mean plate of biscuits and gravy.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; siblings, Richard Murray (Marilyn) and Gail Wickham. She is survived by her sons, Steffen Smith (Kim) of Liberty, MO and Dallas Smith (Brenda) of Kearney, MO; four grandchildren, Hollie Kosorog (Bobby) of Gladstone, MO; Brandon Herring of Kansas City, MO; Hunter Smith and Savannah Smith of Kearney, MO; and two great-grandchildren, Abraham and Lincoln; as well as other extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Cowgill in care of the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00PM Friday, November 14, 2025, at Brush Creek Cemetery in Horton, KS (10551 Cheyenne Rd, Horton, KS, 66439). There is no scheduled family visitation. Friends may call from 11am to 5pm, Thursday at Stith Funeral Home in Polo, MO. Arrangements entrusted to the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home in Polo, MO (660) 354-2214.
