Carol Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lassila Funeral Chapel on Mar. 27, 2026.
Carol Ann Smith was born in Jackson, California, to Harry and Fern Ruiz. She grew up alongside her younger brother, David, all of whom have preceded her in passing.

She later met the love of her life, Curtis Lee Smith, after he returned home from the Army. They married and built a life together, raising three children: Kenny, Charlene, and Jeff, and daughter-in-law Kristina.

Carol was a devoted and loving mother-not only to her own children, but to anyone who needed one. She had an open heart and an open door, always welcoming her children's friends and making sure everyone felt safe, cared for, and included.

She was also a proud and loving grandmother to her eight grandsons: Bradley, Dillon, Austin, Tyler, Matthew, Zachary, Trever, and Jared, all of whom are here today. They were a very special part of her life and brought her so much joy.

Carol was a hardworking woman who chose to work at a school so she could spend summers with her children, something that meant a great deal to her. She made a home filled with love, always cooking meals, always making sure everyone's belly was full, and that no one went without comfort or care.

Carol had an incredible zest for life. She loved being around people and was always ready for a party, a gathering, or any excuse to bring people together. She was known for her warmth, her laughter, and for making the best potato salad-something many will fondly remember.

She also cherished time spent with her dear friends Lynn and Doris, especially sharing a glass of wine and enjoying life's simple moments. She loved going to her class reunions in Jackson, California, where she grew up, and spending time with her close friends Eva, Avalina, and Esperanzo-also known as "The Triplets." Those friendships meant so much to her and were a special part of her life.

Carol passed away on March 25th, just shy of her 85th birthday on June 7th. She leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and a life well lived through the many people she cared for so deeply. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law, her brother-in-law, and her many nieces and nephews who celebrate her life.
