Charles John Bicking Jr.

December 24, 1942 – February 24, 2026

Charles John Bicking Jr., lovingly known as Chuck or Charley to his family and friends, passed away on February 24, 2026, in Grass Valley, California, at the age of 83.

Born on December 24, 1942, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Chuck was the son of Charles Bicking and Betty Bicking. Raised with a strong work ethic and a deep sense of family, he carried those values with him throughout his life.

Chuck began his working years at the Carnation Milk Company before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965. During his active duty, he worked in the boiler room and traveled extensively throughout the Pacific Ocean aboard the USS O'Bannon and the USS McKean. He was a proud Navy veteran and a proud American, and his time in service remained one of the defining chapters of his life.

After his military service, Chuck eventually settled in California, where he built a long and respected career as an automotive mechanic. For 35 years, he worked on Volkswagens, Volvos, and other import cars, and owned and operated CJ's Auto Repair. He was known not only for his skill and honesty in his trade, but also for the friendships he built with customers and coworkers who trusted him implicitly.

In 1973, Chuck met the love of his life, Carmella. Together they built a beautiful life and shared 52 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion. They raised three children: sons David Bicking and Charles John Bicking IV, and their youngest daughter, Heather Brashear. Family was the center of Chuck's world.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Betty Bicking, and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Chuck is survived by his devoted wife, Carmella; his son David Bicking and wife Dawn Bicking; his son Charles Bicking IV; and his daughter Heather Brashear and her husband John Brashear. He is also survived by his many grandchildren - Moriah, DJ, Angelina, Victoria, Sadie, Charlie, and Christian - as well as his great-grandchildren and his sister Barbara Crowell.

Chuck will be remembered for his quick wit, sharp humor, caring heart, and unwavering dedication to his family. He was a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and served proudly. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to a local veteran's foundation.
