Carol Tyler Obituary

Mrs. Carol Elaine Tyler, 85, of Rome, Georgia passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024 after a long and valiant fight against Alzheimer's Disease. Carol was born on August 29, 1938, in Rome, Georgia to the late Raymond Rolan and Leone Young Rolan.

Mrs. Tyler was a graduate of Johnson High School, in Rome. Upon graduation, she married the love of her life, Howard J. Tyler, on September 28, 1956 at the Dykes Creek Baptist Church. Their marriage was the first one performed in the new church sanctuary. In 2006, they celebrated their golden 50th anniversary in the church's new Family Life Center surrounded by their family and friends of many years.

Mrs. Tyler was retired from the U. S. Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, where she had served as the group clerk. She received numerous awards for her work with the I.R.S. She was known for her organizational skills and efficiency.

After retirement from the I.R.S., she served as a volunteer at Floyd Medical Center and worked for a while with the local Consumer Credit Counseling office. In addition, Mrs. Tyler was one of the founding members of the Model-Johnson Schools Foundation. Mrs. Tyler was an avid walker. She and Howard walked at least a mile five days a week at the Mt. Berry mall where they became well-known to various mall employees. The family wishes to thank Mrs. Christa Williams for driving the Tylers to the mall each day, once they were no longer able to drive, and the many employees of the mall and Chik-Fil-A who showed kindness to her as her disease progressed.

Mrs. Tyler was an active and faithful member of the North Rome Church of God for over fifty years. She served first as a Sunday School teacher of the junior girls; then as a young adult co-teacher; and in her later years, assisting Howard in his role of Samaritan Class Sunday School teacher, planning and organizing class events. She was passionate about her faith and raised her two children in the faith.

Mrs. Tyler was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Leone Rolan, by her two sisters Laverne Smith (Albert) and Brenda Landrum (Doug), and by her son-in-law, Jimmy Parris. She is survived by her loving husband, Howard; two children, Cherie Parris of Rome; Rodney Tyler (Len) of Rome; five grandchildren, Jaime Bragdon (Clay); Brett Tyler (Catherine); Sadie Belcher (Zachaery); Erin Helton (Trace); Emily Thompson (David); eight great-grandchildren: Mason Martin, Dakota Bragdon, Logan Bragdon, Iris Bragdon, Leah Helton, Evan Helton, Naomi Belcher and Jonathan Thompson; many nieces and nephews.

The Tyler family will receive friends on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at North Rome Church of God, 1929 North Broad Street, Rome, GA 30161. A funeral service will be held at the Church Sunday, July 14, 2024 following the visitation at 6:00 PM with Rev. Terry Addis officiating. A private burial to follow at Floyd Memory Gardens, 895 Cartersville Highway, Rome, Georgia 30161 with the following gentleman serving as pallbearers: Brett Tyler, Clay Bragdon, Trace Helton, Zachaery Belcher, David Thompson and David Getman.
