Carol Walterena VanBeek, age 87, of Hollandale, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026, at her home surrounded by family.
Carol was born on February 18, 1939, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the daughter of Harry and Anna (Dykstra) VanderHorst. She graduated from high school in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. On June 14, 1957, she married Philip “Phil” VanBeek in Hollandale and together had four children.
Carol was a great caregiver and dedicated 20 years at Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. She enjoyed doing word searches, bird watching, and gathering with friends for Tuesday morning coffee club. Carol and Phil loved spending summers at their cabin on Pleasant Lake near Hackensack, Minnesota, and enjoyed many adventures camping, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling in their younger years.
Carol is survived by her children, Becky (Daniel) Cole of Standish, Maine, Linda VanBeek of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Cindy (Michael) Severtson of Austin, Minnesota, and Jeff VanBeek of Austin, Minnesota; grandchildren, Danny, Jr. (Amanda) Cole, Jake (Robyn) Cole, Rhonda (Shay Gilpatrick) Cole, Dalton (Marley Cardona) Dahl, Ethan (Alyssa) Severtson, Anna (Zach) Jacobson, Madison VanBeek, Olivia VanBeek, Spencer VanBeek, and Ellie VanBeek; great-grandchildren, Dustin (Maria) Cole, Derek Cole, Kylie Cole, Brycen Cole, Zilphy Avery, Keegan Avery, Alexis Cole, Rhylan Delano, Austin Cole, Jaxon Cole, Elijah Cole Gilpatrick, Chandler Severtson, Ophelia Severtson, and baby boy, Bowie (arriving soon); great-great-granddaughter, Emmy Cole; sister-in-law, Alice VanderHorst of Owatonna, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Anna VanderHorst; husband, Phil in 2019; granddaughter, Kelley Cole; and brother, Wayne VanderHorst.
The family would like to thank Mayo Hospice for all their exceptional care and support during her final days. Special thanks to Dale Miller for delivering food and groceries when Carol was unable to leave her home. The family is also grateful to Ron and Rose DeVries for being such wonderful friends and neighbors throughout the years.
A funeral service for Carol will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Bonnerup Funeral & Cremation Services in Albert Lea, Minnesota. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
