Carol Joan Walker, age 77, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Friday afternoon, August 16th, 2024.
Carol was born April 13th, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter and only child of James Melvin and Margaret Louise (Boughton) Smith. Her parents preceded her in death.
Carol married Samuel Larry “Sam” Walker on July 23rd, 1977 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He preceded her in death on September 11, 2010.
Carol is survived by her and Samuel’s three daughters: Monica (husband David) Gading of Brownsburg, Indiana, Christina (husband Sean) Speitel of Indianapolis, Indiana and Cynthia (Dan Zimmermann) of Indianapolis, Indiana.
She is also survived by ten grandchildren Ashley, Adam, Aaron, Ashton, Krysta, Tyler, Allison, Andrew, Jacob, and Zane; as well as seven great-grandchildren.
Her visitation will be Sunday August 25th, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park East Funeral Center, located at 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229.
An additional visitation will be held on Monday, August 26th, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Little Flower Catholic Church, located at 4720 E. 13th street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46201.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM. Father Bob Gilday will officiate.
Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery where Carol will be laid to rest with her husband Sam.
Most important to Carol was her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Carol also enjoyed many things throughout her life including camping and spending time with family members and friends. She also enjoyed collecting Longaberger baskets and Thirty One Brand bags. She was always known as the “Bag Lady.”
Carol worked as a Retail Office manager/Customer Service Manager at Zayres/Ames for 23 years from 1967 to August 25,1990 (when Ames went out of business). She was then selfemployed from 1990 to 2019 cleaning houses.
She enjoyed walking and would always say “I have to get my steps in!”
