Mrs. Carole Jean Black Kennington, 87, of Lancaster, widow of Vernon W. Kennington, Sr., passed away Friday, October 17, 2025. She was born July 14, 1938 in Chester, a daughter of the late James P. Black and Leola Griffin Black. Mrs. Kennington attended High Point Freewill Baptist Church when she was able. She enjoyed watching Clemson football, doing crafts, playing cards and farkle. Mrs. Kennington was an avid Elvis fan.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Kennington will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. John Hess officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.
Mrs. Kennington is survived by her son, Vernon W. "Bill" Kennington, Jr. and his wife Benay, of Lancaster; three daughters, Karan Costner and Leah Smith and her husband Dale all of Lancaster and Linda Callentine and her husband David of Virginia; ten grandchildren, Scott, Stephanie, Laura, Christopher, Jacob, Kortney, Kristina, Christopher, Kylie, and Allie; 21 great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Joy Fleming and her husband Ken. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Felicia; and a sister, Joyce McKay.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home of Leah and Dale. Notes to the family may be made at www.lancasterfuneralhome.com.
