Carole Grant

Carole Lynn Shannon Grant was born June 1, 1943 in West Helena, Arkansas to Robert Phillip Sr. and Carolyn Gresham Shannon. She was the second of three. Robert Phillip Shannon, Jr was the youngest and Walter Gresham Shannon, who died at a young age, the oldest. Her younger days in West Helena were full of fun and laughter. She was the oldest of a group of four girls born in the neighborhood that summer who became lifelong friends. As a student she excelled academically. She played the clarinet in high school band and enjoyed playing the piano. During marching season, she was a baton twirler with the marching band. It was in her senior year that she met Jim Grant on a blind date. They were set up by his roommate's mom when she asked for help finding a date for her son for a party when they came home from college for a weekend. On November 6, 2025 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

After high school, Carole attended and graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She spent the next many years working as a registered nurse in a hospital setting. After that, she worked in a clinic for an oncology doctor and then finished out her career as a home health nurse.

Through the years she had three children, Caroline, Pattie, and James "Scooter". Each one brought great joy to her life. She was also blessed with a son-in-law, Doug, and a daughter-in-law, Jaime, as well as four grandchildren, Cassie and Timothy, & Jacob and Jackson. She loved each one very much and was very proud of them.

As time passed Carole had many great adventures. She moved from West Helena, AR to Eureka, CA to Clarksville, AR and eventually to Sherwood. Along the way she made a number of friends that she never forgot.

In her empty nester years, she and Jim began to travel. First it was camping in a tent, then a small pop-up camper and eventually a small fifth-wheel trailer. These trips led them across the United States and into Canada. Their 40th wedding anniversary included a trip to Hawaii. After Jim’s retirement they took a 5 month trip up to Alaska. Eventually they visited all 50 states. She had the privilege of touring Israel with Jim and serving on mission trips that took her to Kenya several times and Haiti once.

But for all her journeys and happenings in life there was nothing more important to her than her God. She knew that no matter what happened He would be there to take care of things. It could be seen in the last few years and the darkness of dementia closed in she could be heard singing that simple song taught to every child “Jesus loves me this I know.” At her eightieth birthday party Russell Mason sang “His Eye Is On the Sparrow” and while not perfect she joined in singing as best she could.

On March 6, 2026 Carole died peacefully in her sleep. She is now fully healed living with her maker. She is survived by her husband Jim Grant, her children, Caroline Grant, Pattie Grant Munnell, and Scooter Grant, her four grandchildren Cassie Munnell, Timothy Munnell, Jacob Wood, and Jackson Grant and her brother Phil Shannon.

She will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home (1921 Main Street, NLR, AR 72114) with a funeral service to follow. A graveside service will be at 9:00 AM on Friday, March 13 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery (1501 W Maryland Ave, NLR, AR 72120).
