Our beloved mother, Carole S Mitchell passed peacefully at her residence on August 16, 2023, due to natural causes. Carole was born in Ogden Utah, on December 26, 1943, to Glenn and Rhea Stevens. She lived in Utah her entire life where she was raised in Devil’s Slide and later moved to Roy Utah with her five siblings, raised six children in Sunset and later moved to Clearfield and finally Layton where she resided at the time of her death.
Carole was born a twin and had four sisters and one brother. Carole graduated from Davis High and met her lifelong companion (Gene Mitchell) of 57 years prior to his death. On September 11, 1964, Carole (Stevens) and Gene Mitchell took the eternal oath and was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple. With this union they had six children: Steven Mitchell, Randy Mitchell, Pat (Scott) Forbes, Craig (Raechel) Mitchell, Bryant Mitchell, and Brad Mitchell.
Carole was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) and served many callings. After her full-time job of raising children, Carole joined the workforce where she was a machine operator for 10 years at Sentinel Consumer Products.
At the tender age of four, Carole suffered a stroke and although she was paralyzed on her right side and had to learn to do everything with her left hand, she was very accomplished. Her main motivation was to try and tell her she couldn’t do something, and she would run right out and do just that!!!
Just a few amazing things she learned how to do was sew, crochet, oil paint and drive among all the other daily activities that those of us with two hands take advantage of. In Carole’s leisure time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, genealogy, long walks and talks with neighbors (She was known to have the gift of GAB!) and reading. In her later years, you would see her regularly on her Jazzy roaming the neighborhood. Carole also loved to go out to eat with her family and friends and loved to try new restaurants.
Carole was preceded in death by her husband Gene, both parents and her brother Robert Stevens. Carole is survived by her six children, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and her four siblings Rae Dell (David) Rigby, Sheryl Rawson, Susan Ritchie, Julie (Dave) McIntire and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Friday August 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roy City Cemetery, 5200 South 2300 West, Roy, Utah. Friends may visit with family Thursday August 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
The family would also like to hold a celebration of life in memory of Carole on Saturday August 26, 2023, at 2092 N 75 E Layton, Utah 84404 for close family and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In addition, the family would like to offer a special thanks to the nurses and doctors that worked so diligently to provide the best care for Carole during her stay at Holy Cross Hospital and Hospice home care, with an extra special thanks to Julie McIntire for her loving assistance, you are truly an angel.
