Carole K. Paulett

Carole Kurz Paulett went to be with the Lord on March 25, 2025, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren every day during her final weeks and days.
Carole was born April 15, 1937 in Washington, DC to Hilda (Crampton) and John Kurz. She was married to William Walker Paulett, Jr. and had six children: Donna Kulesza (Frank), Timothy Paulett (preceded her in death in 1984), Nick Paulett (Renee), Pat Paulett (Susan), Paula Lennox (Dave), and Mike Paulett (Kim). She had 7 grandchildren: Jason Flores (Amber), Christina Paulett, Tim Kulesza (Miranda), Carley Lafferty (David), Matthew Rau (Rebecca), Michael Lennox (Quinn), and Hunter Paulett (Alex). She had 11 great-grandchildren: Jake Flores, Gabby Flores, Mayson Rau, Connor Rau, Mackenzie Paulett, Addy Kulesza, Brynlee Kulesza, Paisley Paulett, Wesley Paulett, Mia Rau, and Walker Lennox.
Carole worked at the US Government Printing Office, became a Real Estate Agent, and was the Membership Secretary at Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, VA and later at Tantallon Country Club in Maryland.
She raised her children in Oakton, VA and then moved to a houseboat at the Gangplank Marina to enjoy her birthplace, Washington, DC and all it had to offer when her kids had all graduated high school. In 1986 she moved to her "Cabin in the Woods" in Mt. Jackson, opening an office supply store in Woodstock. Her store was a "force" in the community, allowing artisans, students, groups to display their events and artwork in her front windows on Main Street. The store closed shortly after Wal-mart came to town. She then went to work at JMU in the Dining Services Office. While at JMU she earned a BA in Human Behavior and Gerontology in 2001, with honors, at the age of 64. After retiring at JMU she was a substitute teacher in Shenandoah County schools and at Massanutten Military Academy.
She lived a life of service to others. She was a leader in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for her children, and continued volunteering with Girl Scouts long after her children were grown. She volunteered at Oakton Elementary, helping students with learning disabilities. She was active in her political party, serving as Precinct Chair and poll worker. In her later years she was active with Animal Assisted Therapy with her dog Missy at Winchester Medical Center. She hosted college baseball players in her home during the summer wood bat league (Woodstock River Bandits) for several years and hosted an exchange student from Spain. She served on the Board of her HOA as Treasurer for years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She was an avid camper until a couple years ago. Tent camping with her children and with Scouts for years, she then bought a VW Westphalia Vanagon in 2004 and had it painted JMU purple and gold. She spent many October's as a campground host in her van at Sherando Lake in the George Washington National Forest near Waynesboro, VA. She travelled with her best friend Vera around the country several times in a trailer, and later purchased a Roadtrek. She had several "girls trips" to Europe with friends and relatives,
Carole touched many lives, having an impact on so many through the years. She will be missed by her family and friends. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Money & King in Vienna, VA.
