Send FlowersCaroline Jayne Galligan, 93, of Marion, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 7:10 am on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Miller's Merry Manor in Marion.
Born on October 8, 1931, in Marion, Jayne was the daughter of Alfred J. and Mary R. (Pealer) Glasser. She married the love of her life, Merrill M. Galligan, on September 25, 1948.
Jayne lived a life full of dedication, creativity, and compassion. She worked as a lab technician at Indiana Contact Lens and held various roles throughout her life, including Flowers by Wire from 1948 to 1950, Queen City, and as a secretary at Glasser's Electric and Battery from 1964 to 1969. Alongside her husband, she co-owned 7th Street Flowers and, after its closure, M&G Package Liquor from 1956 to 1962, as well as Whites Flower Shop from 1955 to 1960.
Jayne was a faithful member of St. Paul Catholic Church since 1931 and was active in the IOTA Sorority. She was a devoted mother and den mother for her son, Jim, and she coached his baseball team. Her love for baseball endured throughout her life.
Jayne had a creative spirit--designing and sewing shirts for her grandchildren and children involved in Relay for Life. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, boating, and participated in regattas for many years. Her river walks were a cherished routine. Later in life, she developed a passion for computers and became an enthusiastic player of computer games.
Her generosity and care extended deeply to her family, often serving as a caregiver to loved ones. She had a unique collection of clowns from across the country, reflecting her playful and joyful nature.
Jayne is survived by her son, Chris (Sally) Galligan; her daughter-in-law, Sheryl Galligan; and 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill M. Galligan; her parents, Alfred and Mary Glasser; her son, James Galligan; her daughter, Theresa Galligan; and her sister, Helenann "Bunny" Jefferson.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
A celebration of Jayne's life will follow at 3:00 pm, with Father Michael Block officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
