Caroline Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home on Mar. 11, 2026.
Caroline Anne Grocki Hall, age 92, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, surrounded by family at The Residence at Quarry Hill in South Burlington, Vermont.

Caroline was born on January 13, 1934, in Binghamton, New York, to Ignatz Grocki and Helen (Wysocki) Grocki, both immigrants from Poland. She and her siblings were proud first-generation Americans, raised with a deep connection to their Polish heritage and family traditions. Caroline grew up in Binghamton's First Ward neighborhood on Wilson Street, the youngest and longest living of seven children: Leo Grocki, Martha (Grocki) Fondy, Esther (Grocki) Lill, Lucy (Grocki) Helsel, Regina (Grocki) Neese, Thomas Grocki, and Caroline. She graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1952.

Caroline spent much of her life in the Southern Tier of New York. She worked for many years as a patent secretary at the Chernin & Gold law firm and later spent time working with the Binghamton Chamber of Commerce. Proud of her Polish heritage, she maintained strong connections to her family roots and traveled to Poland several times throughout her life to reconnect with extended family. In 1960, she represented Binghamton and traveled to Poland as the city's Community Ambassador.

Caroline was married for 57 years to her beloved husband, Donald Hall, who predeceased her in 2020. Together they built a life centered around family, community, and friendship. They enjoyed traveling together, particularly to Bermuda and Vermont, participating in their local wine club, and spending time with family and friends.

Caroline was known for her quick wit and her candid way of speaking her mind. She loved baking and was especially famous among family and friends for her lekvar cake and apple pie, which those lucky enough to enjoy them considered some of the very best. A devoted Catholic, she remained involved with her local churches throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her sons Andrew Hall (2012) and Thomas Hall (2022), as well as her husband Donald Hall (2020).

Caroline is survived by her family: daughter-in-law Alida Hall and her children Peter and Ruby; son Matthew Hall and his wife Takako, and their children Michelle and Alex; daughter Krystyna Hall and her husband John Pettengill, and their son Nathaniel. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Caroline spent the last six years of her life in South Burlington, Vermont. She long wished to be reunited with her beloved Donald, and her family takes comfort in knowing they are together again.

A memorial Mass will be held Saturday May 2, 1:00 pm at St. Patrick's Church, 9 Leroy St. Binghamton. Burial to follow at Saint Stanislaus Kostka Polish Cemetery in Johnson City, New York.

My thoughts are with you during this difficult time and hope you will find comfort in knowing she is reunited with your father and brothers. Your mom was someone who had an enthusiasm for life, her family and her religion.
