Caroline Joyal Obituary

Caroline E. Joyal
1938 - 2024
Belchertown
Caroline E. (Swanson) Joyal (85) passed on April 21, 2024 with family at her side. Born in Hinsdale, NH, she was the daughter of Edwin and Marcia (Stanclift) Swanson.
Caroline worked as an administrative assistant for many years at the Belchertown State School and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 239. She was happiest when spending time with her grandchildren and had a great love of the ocean and her gardens and houseplants. She also enjoyed square dancing, skiing, playing board games, feeding the songbirds that frequented her yard, and walks around town and along the beach in York, Maine.
Caroline will be dearly missed by her husband of 61 years, Samuel Joyal, her daughters Sheila Janocha (Peter), Kimberly Croke (Barry) and Heidi Terault (Christopher), and her grandchildren, Nicole, Thomas, Michael, Karen, and Alexandria.
She is also survived by her loving siblings, Beverly, Geraldine, Marcia (Marty), Donna, Evelyn (Mike), James (Gail), and Bertha, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Judy, and brothers, Edwin, and Carl.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home. Friends and family may gather at 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home before the funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi. Burial will take place in South Cemetery. I am blessed to have spent as much time with my grandmother as I did. She had a major positive impact on my life and upbringing. I have many fond memories of the days I spent with her during the summer as a child and visiting her and my grandfather whenever I could as an adult. I enjoyed keeping her company, playing games like yahtzee and banana grams with her and watching westerns on tv together. I will always remember her as a caring person and a strong woman. She will always be missed and I hope she knows how much I am thinking of her.

I always enjoyed being around Aunt Carol. What a strong woman in so many ways. She will be greatly missed by many. Our family has lost a beautiful soul.
