Carolyn Clayton Obituary
Carolyn Steere Clayton, age 84, of Shelbyville passed away on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, in Louisville.
Carolyn was born Dec. 26, 1940, in Hartsville, S.C. to the late Marjorie Roberts and Dwight M. Steere.
Carolyn attended Centre College, Belmont College and the University of Kentucky. She was a current member of St. James Episcopal Church where she played the organ but had been a longtime member of Shelbyville First Presbyterian Church.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James O. "John" Clayton and her brother, Dr. David Alden Steere.
She is survived by her daughters, Angela Gayl Kirkland of Lexington and Dr. Jennifer Brooks Kirkland of Berkeley, Calif.; her grandchildren, Kelsey Elizabeth Kirkland, Abigail Violet Starkey, Thomas Ian Starkey and William David Starkey.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at the Shelbyville First Presbyterian Church, 629 Main Street, Shelbyville, KY 40065.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to Kentucky Humane Society, 1000 Lyndon Lane, Louisville, KY 40222.
