Carolyn A. Leuenhagen

1948 - 2023

Carolyn A. Leuenhagen, age 74, departed for heaven on April 3, 2023, while in the care of Hospice in Little Rock, Arkansas.

She was born June 12, 1948, as the first of three children to parents Harold B. Alexander and Hazel J. (Martin) Alexander in Mountain Home, Arkansas. She attended elementary school in Kansas City, Missouri, graduated from Mountain Home High School and attended Draughon Business School in Springfield, Missouri.

In 1967 she married Noel Smith in Wichita, Kansas. Together they had three children; Stephanie, Stephen and Jerry. They divorced in 1975 and she returned to Mountain Home with her children. She later married Vern Leuenhagen in Mountain Home, and they moved the family to Little Rock, Arkansas, where she spent the rest of her life.

She loved volunteering and served her community in many ways; as an officer in the local chapter of Cooperative Extension for Homemakers, volunteer and supervisor at the Arkansas State Fair Crafts Division, as a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistant) each spring and as a poll worker during most elections. She also loved crafting many different things and shared her creations with family and friends.

Her biggest pleasure was helping others and she touched many lives doing so. With her final wish, she donated her body to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) for research purposes, so that future medical professionals can learn and help others as they helped her. She felt her greatest accomplishment was raising her children. She dearly loved all her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

She is survived by her three children, Stephanie Eubanks (Little Rock, Arkansas), Stephen (Dana) Smith (Redfield, Arkansas), Jerry (Stacy) Smith (Auburn, Washington); her sister, Donna Smith (Fayetteville, Arkansas); her brother, Harold D. Alexander (Mountain Home); her Aunt Ruby (Gerald) Jackson (Conway, Arkansas); five grandchildren, Katheryn Eubanks (Little Rock), Samantha (William) Wronski (Rutland, Massachusetts), Ashley (Adam) Jones (Little Rock), Riley Smith (Toledo, Ohio) and Avery Smith (Redfield, Arkansas); four great-grandchildren, Billy, David, Vincenzo and George; nieces Allison (Dustin) Thompson (Springdale, Arkansas) and Whitney (Randy) Smith-Knight (Hindsville, Arkansas); nephew Doug (Cathy) Alexander (Bradenton, Florida); and many more relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter Laurel Smith; nephew Michael Alexander; and great-niece Tyler Thompson.

A memorial service is being planned. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to UAMS.
