A Life Story ~ Carolyn Faye Uzzell
Carolyn Faye Uzzell, a woman of unwavering faith
and gentle spirit, was born on January 30th 1947 to the
parents of Nester and Mamie Uzzell in Goldsboro,
North Carolina. She grew up with nine siblings. She
was predeceased in death by eight siblings: Arletha,
Darlene, Geneva, NesterJr. Betty, Maida, Napoleon
and Darius. Her sister Diane is the last surviving
sibling.
While growing up, Carolyn valued time with her
parents, siblings, other family members and friends.
She always loved to share beautiful stories about her
upbringing and cherished memories. Growing up she
often took country walks; these walks introduced her
to God and this is where she would spend intimate
time with him as a child. These walks combined with
unquenching curiosity and thirst for knowledge
became the genesis for her passion in her later years
for the love of observing and creating art.
After completing Norway High School, impacted by
the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. she
was inspired to enlist in the United States Army in
September 1968 where she served as a Medical
Corpman -Nurse aide in the hospital and clinic
assisting doctors and nurses in whatever capacity was
needed. Her services in the army were valuable and
paved the way to greater endeavors.
Carolyn gave birth to her eldest son, Leotart L. Uzzell
(Leo) in 1969 and (Jahi) Johnny Uzzell in 1977. She
loved her two sons dearly! She taught them many life
lessons and also learned many valuable life lessons
from her motherhood. God gave her what she needed
to impart and also receive from them.
After her Military service, she studied at Monroe
College, earning an Associates Degree in Accounting
and Management in 1979. She utilized her degree by
becoming an assistant bookkeeper at East Harlem
Triangle Day Care Center#2 from March 1980 to
September 1991 in New York, New York. She was very
precise, professional, diligent and hardworking in this
position. She had a great business sense and work
ethic in that of ice!
In 1994 she became a home health aide at Progressive
Home Health Services and remained there until 2003.
This is where she shared God's love of compassion
and service to all her clients throughout the Boroughs
of New York; she worked eighty hour weeks for years
to bring excellent service to her clients; she was a
companion to many of them while assisting them in
care and nurture. Despite her own health challenges
she still persevered and shared God's love through
compassionate care for many years until she was no
longer able to provide the service.
Retirement brought Carolyn deep satisfaction as she
dedicated herself to reading and spreading God's Word,
and pursuing her passion for Art by observing, creating
and sharing her work. She loved finding peace during
walks in nature. She was determined to exercise, walk
and eat healthy despite her physical condition and
challenges she faced on a day to day basis. She always
encouraged herself with the Word of God! Carolyn was
socially and politically conscious. She cared about
humanity; always seeing the value of each person,
regardless of status. Above all, she enjoyed fellowship
with her treasured siblings, Sons, Daughter in love,
Grand daughter, Host of family members she held dear
and her beloved friends.
She loved God, His word, life, family, history, people,
she enjoyed conversation, Art and writing. In her later
years she was a part of a women's group, writing
class, art class and exercise class. She always shined
bright and enjoyed blessing others and sharing
information to help others.
She believed we all have gifts to share with the world
and always encouraged those around her to utilize the
gifts God has given them.
Carolyn leaves to cherish her memories; her Sons, Leo
L. Uzzell and Jahi J. Uzzell; his wife (Daughter) in
love Suzanne E Uzzell; her Sister Diane Uzzell; her
Granddaughter, Nashakeem Uzzell; and a plethora of
nieces and nephews she loved. She truly loved her
family and friends and all those she knew. Our
beloved Carolyn Faye Uzzell's life of faith,
perseverance, excellence and love will be valued! Her
kindness and devotion will be profoundly missed. She
will forever remain our beacon of light that will
forever shine bright in our hearts! She truly lived a
life unto the Lord Jesus and a life of service! We
celebrate her life and legacy!
