Carolyne Winter

1946 - 2025

Carolyne Joyce Winter, formerly of Cayucos, CA, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the age of 79. She was born Carolyne Joyce Grapentine on March 18, 1946, the oldest of Carroll and Mary Grapentine in Salinas, CA.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Winter of Pine Grove, CA; son, Jim Beck and daughter-in-law Cynthia Beck of Santa Maria, CA; sister, Laurie Grapentine of Annona, TX; brother, Dave Grapentine of Templeton, CA; stepson, Duane Beck of Lake Hughes, CA; and five nephews and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her precious children and stepchildren, Gay Lynn Beck, Danny Beck, Dane Beck, Diane Beck Richardson; her brother, Augie Grapentine; and her parents, Carroll and Mary Grapentine. It was the love and support of God that carried her through those losses.

Carolyne loved her role as a mother and homemaker. She loved homemaking, entertaining at home, cooking, and gardening. She loved God and His Son, Jesus Christ, whom she depended on through the trials in her life. She was guided by God to a career in nursing when she experienced a medical emergency at the age of 19. She loved her life's work as a nurse, which is why she worked for so many years.

Carolyne received her RN license in June 1970 and retired in April 2015, having worked as a nurse for 44 ¾ years in the profession.

She spent the first half of her career working at community hospitals and home care agencies in San Luis Obispo, then joined the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in 1997, where she remained until her retirement in 2015. She worked at three California prisons in those years: the California Men's Colony in San Luis Obispo, Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, California, and the Northern California Women's Facility in Stockton, CA.
