Carrel Burton

Carrel (Compton) Burton, 93, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 29, 1932, in Cowling, Illinois, the daughter of Claude and Wilma (Baxter) Compton. Carrel married Clifford Burton, Jr., on October 27, 1952, and they enjoyed sixty-six years of marriage before his passing on December 20, 2018.

Carrel loved her family very much and was always there for them. She never met a stranger and was quick to help anyone in need. In her free time, Carrel enjoyed being outside, taking care of her flowers and gardening. She also liked making crafts.

Carrel will be remembered by her son, Terry (Terri) Burton; two daughters, Janet Gloria and Debbie Legg; four grandchildren; many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carrel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Michael Burton; twin brother, Ferrel Compton; brothers, Jerry, Gail, Tommy and Keith Compton; sister, Lois Odom.

In keeping with Carrel's wishes no formal services will be held at this time.
