Carrie Dell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 2, 2020.
Mrs. Carrie Lee Dell, aged 83, passed away peacefully while asleep at home on, September 2nd, 2020 and now joins her husband Lindy Sr.. Carrie will be missed by her children, grandchildren and friends. She was born in Glenwood, Maryland to parents, Benjamin and Lillian. She grew up on a farm with her older half-brother, George Noel Howard. Carrie and George knew about farm-life from a young age and they both attended school in Lisbon. George and Carrie were close siblings and after George graduated from high school to join the Air Force, Carrie followed at 16 to go to work as a telephone operator in Howard, County. It wasn't long before Carrie met the love of her life, Lindy at Kramer's swimming pool and at the Silver & Dell quary, where they both became excellent swimmers. They loved to be near and enjoy the water. Carrie was 18 years old when she married Lindy in September of 1955. Carrie was athletic and played basketball in school. Lindy taught her how to bowl and in her later years in life, she loved watching football. She chose to reside in Northwest Baltimore where Lindy originated and she started a family at the age of 19. Not far from the Pimlico Race Track, is where her mother-in-law lived and Carrie partook in traditional corned beef, stewed tomatoes, potato cakes and delicious Maryland blue crab meals. At the age of 27, Carrie returned to work part-time driving a school bus. At the age of 29, she moved her family from the city. Life in the country is where she was raised and longed to be close to nature. After moving, and with the help of her close friend Arbutus Shifflet, it wasn't long before Carrie obtained her real estate license working up from a receptionist to an agent/broker at the famous Mary Bell Grempler Realty firm. Simultaneously, Carrie and Lindy along with their three children assisted in the construction of a home on a 12+ acre parcel of land in Howard, County. At the age of 40, Carrie and Lindy, began wintering in Florida for 6 months a year while their young adult children made their own lives. In Florida, Carrie took up fishing and she was able to catch a huge swordfish. The couple lived in Florida for 10 consecutive winters and made a good life for themselves. They managed to live in the house they built for over 50 years and were faith devoted, throughout their lives. Carrie is survived by her step-son, Lindy Jr., her three children, Joy, Dave, Dwayne, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and especially Carlos, her faithful companion house cat. Carrie's memorial graveside service was held on Fri. December 4th, 2020. Funeral Home: Haight Funeral Home, Sykesville, MD Burial: Lorraine Park Cemetery, Baltimore County.

Carrie was a dear friend and participated in our widows group at the Chapelgate Presbyterian church. I only knew her for a short time but I will always remember her. Rest in peace Carrie.
