Carroll Wayne Jett, 75, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away Monday, February 16, 2026, at WVU J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia.
Born and raised in Ravenswood, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Romey and Ethel Phillips Jett. Carroll was preceded in death by his brothers, Roland Jett, Darrel Jett, and Roger Jett.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Janet Susan Lancaster Jett in 2011, and former daughter-in-law, Katherine “Katie” Rose Tedrick Jett in 2019.
Carroll leaves behind his beloved son Kevin and his treasured grandchildren, Konnor and Kensie, who meant the world to him. He was a devoted father and grandfather, caring for Kevin, Konnor, and Kensie, protecting and cherishing them.
Carroll was a sportswriter and one of the great chroniclers of local sports for the Mid-Ohio Valley. His work for the Parkersburg News and Sentinel newspaper earned him the 1994 Gene Morehouse Award for his contributions to journalism.
He was also a big part of Parkersburg High School Big Red football. Carroll authored the book “Here Come the Big Reds” preserving the legacy and tradition of Big Red football for generations to come.
While writing stories for years about coaches, Carroll later became one himself. He worked with AAU basketball for 25 years, leading one of his teams to a national title and five others to state championships.
He also spent many years working with the Wood County Recreation Commission and served as a committed track meet announcer and official scorekeeper across all levels of track and field competition.
Carroll's dedication will have a lasting influence on our local sports community for many generations to come.
His family will mourn his passing in private.
