Casey Jim Duncan

“Casey Jones,” also known as Casey Jim Duncan, passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2023, in Layton, Utah. He was lost due to a blood clot and accelerated septicemia (Sepsis). He was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing. It has been incredibly difficult to accept that we lost him so young and so suddenly.

Casey was a hardworking man who always had a project in the making. Whether it was woodworking, making dreamcatchers, and really just trying to use whatever he had collected or found in the world to make something beautiful. Casey had a knack for working with his hands and turning ordinary materials into magnificent works of art. He found joy in working with wood and metal he had found and would often express his love for others by gifting handmade masterpieces to those he cared about.

He was born on March 28, 1975, in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Casey's journey eventually led him to Wisconsin where he truly found his calling in the construction industry. He began as a humble hod carrier, he quickly worked his way up to become a skilled brick mason. He always enjoyed hands-on jobs so that he could feel the material he was working with, and the sense of accomplishment that came with the hard earned work.

Casey was always learning more things, and would often nerd out about new technology and world events. He could hold a conversation on almost anything because he just had an eager fascination for what people could do and what he could learn from them. He always found something about others to admire even at their lowest. He had many creative friends and would share his passions with them and speak highly of them to people he loved, making the world a better place with the small, but significant acts.

Casey loved his family, and even in his hardest moments he found ways to make them happy and always tried. He had everyone’s backs when they were in need and he came a long way before he passed. And those efforts were not in vain, because all of us here today are incredibly thankful for his impact on our lives.

Casey was a Greenbay Packers fan, he loved the color green, and being outside. He cherished moments camping or fishing with his family. He always had the wildest stories to share and the coolest gadgets to show you. He was known as the “cool uncle,” for sure. There was so much more to Casey than can be simply written or spoken in something so small as this, but all those that knew him understand that he was one of the best people to have had in their lives, and his smile will be remembered.

Casey is survived by his sister, Darrie Albers, along with his nephews: Jensen, Tarrell, and Eric, and his nieces Shayla and Trista. He is also survived by his brother-in-law James. In addition to his immediate family, Casey had close family friends who were like family to him: Dale, Troy, Bill, Greg, Danielle, Rob, and his best friend and cutest companion; his dog Hazen. 

A Celebration of Life event will be held on July 29th at the Christian Life Center in Layton, Utah. The service will begin at 2:00 PM (UTC-7) and will provide an opportunity for all those who loved Casey to come together and remember the joy he brought into their lives. In honor of Casey's memory, let us cherish the laughter he shared with us, the wisdom he imparted upon us, and the love he showered upon us all. Though our hearts are heavy with grief at his loss, let us come together with gratitude for having had such an extraordinary person grace our lives. Casey may no longer be with us physically, but his spirit will live on forever in our memories. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the warmth of our love.
