Casey M. LaWare Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 14, 2005.
As a child, Casey M. LaWare didn't like to hunt because he didn't want to shoot anything. But he was proud of his family's military service _ he slept with his grandfather's World War II wool blanket and was so proud of his uniform that he wore it on trips home against regulations. "The Army was what he wanted to do. He was really proud to be there," said his mother, Kathy Grace. LaWare, a 19-year-old from Redding, Calif., died April 9 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany after he was severely burned in a guard tower fire in Mahmudiyah, Iraq, three days earlier. He was based at Fort Irwin. Before he even graduated from high school, LaWare enlisted in the Army, where he was trained as a sharpshooter and shipped to Iraq. Grace said that her son liked being in the Army but wasn't eager to fight. He was known as a quiet man who always helped with neighborhood chores. "Casey had the values of a young man from decades past," his company commander said. "He was born 60 years too late."

I came across the story of your son and wanted to let you know you and your family will always be in my prayers. I have a son in the military and cant imagine what you have gone through losing such a brave young man. I just want you to know his sacrifice will never be forgotten. I am truly grateful for his service to our country today and always.

It has almost been ten years since that dreadful night on Check Point 17. There is not a single day that passes that I don't think about that night. I helped carry him from the tower to the bunker and wait for helicopter to arrive. I didn't know it was going to be the last time I was going to see him. I know that I tried my best to save him, but my best was not enough. My heart goes out to his Family and Friends. Casey will never be forgotten, he will always be in my thoughts.

To the family of PFC Casey M. LaWare:
Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

5 years have passed since this young soldier life was taken away from his family. God may have a mission for him in heaven and I'm sure he is somewhere in heaven now, constantly looking over his family and loved ones.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I was in high school with Casey and on the streets with him. I was there in english class everyday he was quiet and respectful. He was such a good person and a helpful friend. I'm so proud of him and what he accomplished. I wish he was still with us today but he's with us in our hearts. I'll always remember you bro.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!
