Obituary of Casey Smyth
Timothy "Casey" Smyth
Casey was born on April 26, 1983, to his devoted parents, Kevin and Lorri Smyth of Puyallup. He died suddenly on June 4, 2022, as a result of undiagnosed heart disease, at home in Renton, WA.
Casey graduated from Emerald Ridge High School and attended Pierce College, Central Washington University and WGU; the latter for which he was on track to receive his B.A. in August 2022. He eagerly anticipated his graduation after working tirelessly for several years toward his degree.
Casey worked at Expedia for 16 years, most recently as Air Operations Manager. He was committed to and loved his work and his dedicated colleagues. He was highly skilled with data analysis and enjoyed technical pursuits. He was a gifted writer, gamer and student – always keeping up with innovation. He had a well-developed, quirky sense of humor, thought strategically, helped others and cared deeply for family and friends.
Casey loved great stories. He was a dedicated follower of the Marvel Comic Universe, and those movies always seemed to mysteriously appear on his hard drive before their public release. He crafted a terrific role-playing world he shared with his Thursday night game group. He was also a regular cast member in a long-running online space game. Casey was terrific at games, which are simply another form of story-telling. He learned and mastered systems early, leaving his often much older and experienced competitors in the dirt.
In addition to his parents, he leaves behind the rest of his grieving family, including his brother, Patrick, of Burien; his grandparents, James and Patricia Smyth of Renton; grandmother Peggy Miller of Federal Way; uncle Paul Miller of Puyallup, aunt Leslie (Dennis) Smith of Renton; special niece Antoinette Hastings and his cousins: Jackie (Dirk) Hallingstad and Leonard Hallingstad, Chris (Jennifer) and Isabella Smith, Alex Valliere, Elizabeth (Roy) Lisman, Katie (Pierric Parret) Valliere and Leo; in addition to a broad extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Rita Miller; his grandfathers Warren Miller and Jerome Affeldt and his aunt Julia Valliere. He also left behind dear friends from around the globe that he met through his travels for Expedia.
A celebration of Casey's life will be held at The Hansen Place in Sumner on July 10, 2022, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Casey's name to "Community Matters" at community-matters.org/donate/
If you plan to attend the Celebration of Life, we invite you to wear a touch of purple (Casey's favorite color).
In the interest of health, please take a COVID-19 test the morning of the serivce.
His parents and brother wish to thank family and friends who have offered love and support during this challenging time.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
