John Riley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Curnow Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Sumner on Jan. 15, 2026.
John Gregory Riley, age 71, passed away peacefully in Sumner, Washington on January 2nd, 2026.

John was born on May 26, 1954, in El Paso, Texas. Born to Parents: Beatrice Riley (mother) and Lewellyn Riley (father, deceased). Throughout his life, he was known for his perseverance, his love for family, and a quiet strength that carried him through both joy and hardship. His story is one marked by growth, reflection, and ultimately, redemption.

Along with Johns 27-year career at Boeing he was also a dedicated lifelong car enthusiast. Building and restoring old cars to their original life with his two sons, Brandon and Brett. John and his brother, Tom couldn't wait to go to the next show of classic cars, new cars, hot rods and swap meet's. They were his passion. Brandon and Brett were gifted each an old car when he retired. Which they both love.

John was a devoted husband , father and grandfather. He is survived by his ex-wife of 42 years Cheryl Riley, and two sons, Brandon Riley and Brett Riley, and by his four beloved grandchildren, Zane, Temperance, Dean, and Sam, who were a great source of joy and pride in his life. He is also survived by his mother Beatrice Riley, sisters Patricia Carpenter, Kerry Davis, and Brother Thomas Riley.

He was preceded in death by his (brothers) Greg Riley, Michael Riley, and (sister) Kelly Adams.

In 2024, John re-accepted Jesus Christ into his heart, reaffirming his faith and placing his trust in the Lord. This decision brought him peace and renewed hope, and his family takes comfort in knowing he is now fully restored and resting in God's eternal care.

Those who mourn John's passing find comfort in the promise of Scripture: "If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord" (Romans 14:8).

His family trusts that John is now free from pain and welcomed home by his Savior.

John will be remembered for his role as Son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather and for the love that continues to live on through his family.

Service details will be shared with family and friends.
