Cassandra D. Cran (Nesbeth) (age 73), a beloved Matriarch, Caregiver, and devoted friend, affectionately known as "Vee" was granted her eternal wings on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Thomas Jefferson Hospital, in Philadelphia, PA, surrounded by family. She was born on May 22, 1950, to the late Claris Willoughby and Ezekiel Lawrence in St. Andrew, Jamaica. In addition, Cassandra was lovingly raised by her parents Claris Nesbeth and Hylton Nesbeth, Sr.
As a young girl, Cassandra attended Primary Schools and later graduated from Harrison Memorial High School located in Montego Bay, Jamaica. After graduating high school, Cassandra entered the workforce and held positions with various employers. Her earlier jobs include working in duty-free shops (also referred to as " Inbond shops") and as a telephone operator for InterContinental Hotel, which she most enjoyed. She spoke about memories of time spent with friends, her Aunt Polly, and also her parents where she learned how to cook and sew clothes.
Moreover, Cassandra had a zest for life. In December 1974, she happily married the love of her life, Ceyron C. Cran, Sr. Their union formed a blended family. Soon after, the two permanently migrated to the United States of America where they resided in
Greenville, Delaware. Later, they moved to
Wilmington, Delaware amongst close friends where they expanded their life and family, including the birth of Ceyron C. Cran, Jr. in September 1982.
Cassandra was an exemplary woman that embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, compassion for others, unwavering strength, A bit matter of fact, unending generosity, and so much more. These qualities were most expressed through her unconditional love and support for family and close friends.
In addition, she was gifted with many talents and passions that was most expressed through her cooking and baking skills. She was famous for her delicious Cheesecake, one-of-a-kind Jamaican Rum Cake, and savory Carrot Cake. And whenever she'd visit her loving Aunt Polly and family in New Jersey, she was often times greeted with "Vee, did you bring any cake?"
Cassandra's earlier endeavors include working at WSFS Bank, located in
Wilmington, Delaware where she dedicated over eight years of service. Later, she returned to school and earned a certification in Interior Decorating & Upholstery. In addition, she enhanced her education by taking college courses at Delaware Technical Community College. Other jobs include being self-employed as a seamstress and an Interior Decorator & Upholsterer. She made beautiful clothing such as bridal party gowns and prom dresses for family and friends. Also, she was known for making custom drapes and reupholstering sofas and chairs. Cassandra was great at adding her own creative ideas to an inspiration which always brought joy to others in the end.
Although family was the core of Cassandra's being, her relationship with others extended beyond. For over 27 years, Cassandra nurtured countless children, including her own grandchildren, as the owner and operator of MorningStar KinderCare, a children's daycare, located in
Wilmington, Delaware. Cassandra was also Certified, Licensed, and Insured as an In-Home Family Child Care Provider. She was unselfish with her love, time, and patience toward children, and held a bond with them so close and endearing that they became a part of her own family. Cassandra had a profound impact on these children through her guidance, mentorship, support, and more. Parents were most appreciative for her influence on their children so much that they would entrust their child(ren), and later their grandchildren, with Cassandra from early birth to teenage years.
Her legacy is marked by her dedication and commitment to family, close friends, her church, and daycare family. Family was always a joy to her and the center of her happiness. Especially, when she would express accomplishments of her Grandchildren. She was thought of as a dedicated and sweet spirit which was evident through her commitment and youth involvement to Wilmington Optimist Little League, PAL Football, Soccer, Band concerts, recitals, numerous graduations, helping with college drop-offs/pickups, and the settling in process. Cassandra was always traveling on the road providing help and support to numerous family members both near and far.
As a faithful servant, Cassandra was a dedicated member of Canaan Baptist Church, located in
New Castle, Delaware. She served on various ministries including Usher, Health, and Jr./Youth Usher. Previously, she served as one of the Directors of the Jr./Youth Ushers because of her rapport with the youth and the great relationship shared.
As we reflect upon this moment, we find ourselves in an ocean of emotions. It's never easy saying goodbye to a person so loved. Cassandra was one of our family pillars, a loving soul, and someone we could lean on. However, beyond our goodbyes, we all hold a beautiful and peaceful place where our memories of her lives on.
Cassandra was predeceased by her husband: Ceyron C. Cran, Sr; Parents: Ezekiel Lawrence, Claris Nesbeth and Hylton, Nesbeth Sr; Sister: V. Lawrence; Brother: Robert Nesbeth, Sr; Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Maternal/Paternal Grandparents.
Cassandra leaves to cherish her memories and carry on a Legacy of Love, Respect, and Devotion; Children: Valrie Vernon, Wendy Ann Cran-Carty (Calphor), Janice Tatham, Ann Marie Cran-Williams (Alan), Ceyron C. Cran, Jr.(Moneisha), Robert Nesbeth, Jr. (Alondra). Grandchildren: Danielle, Alex, Nathaniel, Adora, and DeAnna. Special Sister: Brenda Pinnock; Special Extended Family: The Dunn's and the Fayson's. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and church family.
